EcoLomic Policy and Law is a scientific online journal published by
Global EcoLomics which deals with certain international issues related to
the study of the interface between ecology and economics, i.e. international
ecolomics. For an explanation of the ecolomics concept, please consult the
Presentation and Scope
sections.
The specific subject matter of this journal is made explicit in its
subtitle:
Journal of Trade and Environment Studies. 'Trade' is understood here in
the broad sense that the WTO gives it, i.e. it includes goods, services,
intellectual property rights, and investments. Furthermore, we are abiding
by the trend of including global governance issues because trade strongly
influences many if not most other sectors of global governance, especially
the environment. This niche and the approach chosen are innovative in that
they combine a relatively well-defined subject area with an
interdisciplinary outlook. Within this framework, the journal is primarily
oriented toward the analysis of intergovernmental organizations,
multilateral agreements, WTO case law, and negotiation processes especially
with regard to multilateral environmental agreements.
The theme of trade and environment studies has attracted a large
number of publications in several disciplines and journals, as well
as quite a number of books, since the early 1990s. At the diplomatic
front there have been numerous related negotiation processes since
then, primarily through various negotiation mechanisms of
multilateral environmental agreements, the Global Environment
Facility, the WTO's Committee on Trade and Environment and several
other WTO bodies dealing directly or indirectly with issues that
have environmental consequences and ramifications, UNEP, UNCTAD, FAO,
OECD, or through the South Center. Nevertheless, at the present
time, this is the only scientific journal dedicated to trade and
environment studies. The sub-disciplines primarily relied upon for
an intellectual foundation of this research are the following:
|
public international law
|
|
international economic law,
especially WTO law
|
|
global environmental policy and
law
|
|
international relations
|
|
international environmental
economics
|
|

affairs
